除了艺术方面,高克恭还是一位versed in Confucian classics and the principles of Neo-Confucianism. He was a man of letters who cherished simplicity and elegance, yet he did not indulge in the allurements of an official career. Instead, he chose to retreat to his home in Beijing's Fangshan district, where he devoted himself to family life and artistic pursuits.

In his early years, highkang was heavily influenced by his father's profound knowledge of classical learning. He spent much time studying the scriptures by heart and delving deeply into their meaning. As a result, he developed a keen insight that went beyond the surface level.

Highkang's career began with appointments as an assistant official in various regions before being promoted to serve as a department head at the Ministry of Household Affairs. His reputation for integrity and fairness earned him recognition from both scholars and officials alike.

When appointed as an inspector-general during the reign of Emperor Kublai Khan (1260–1294), Highkang demonstrated exceptional administrative skills while maintaining justice throughout his tenure. Despite being offered higher positions within government ranks due to his exceptional abilities, Highkang remained committed to upholding moral integrity over personal gain or advancement opportunities.

Highkang is also known for advocating against corruption within local administration systems during this era. In one instance when tasked with managing taxes in Jiangsu Province (which included present-day Shanghai) under orders from Imperial Court members who sought increased revenues without considering its impact on local populations' well-being; instead choosing not sign off nor burn documents related these actions thus showing resistance towards corrupt practices taking place around him while others were more willing comply out fear consequences if they spoke out against such policies which resulted them losing face among other things but most importantly it showed courage standing alone against unjust system even though there wasn't any immediate positive outcome because nobody else shared same views like him except maybe few close friends whom had heard rumors about what happened later learned how important individuality can be especially when faced adversity especially since so many people simply follow crowd blindly rather than question authority directly confronting problems head-on no matter how difficult may seem at first glance until change happens gradually through consistent effort made possible only by those brave enough take stand despite overwhelming odds stacked against them
